The Specialised Course on Heavy Ion Cancer Therapy Research is a one-week specialised international online zoom, that will be held from 4th to 8th July 2022. It is free of charge and is funded by the European Union’s H2020 research and innovation programme through the HITRIplus project. The course will cover state-of-the-art science and technology and will be delivered by world’s leading scientists and engineers in the field.
The course is intended for students specialising in medical physics and engineering or related subjects including accelerator technology, magnet technology, gantry design and beam dynamics, medical imaging, biophysics, radiobiology, dosimetry, clinical aspects of particle therapy, treatment planning, moving targets, arc delivery, facility certification and business an entrepreneurship aspects of medical research infrastructures.
Eligible student must be currently enrolled in a master or Ph.D. degree or must have obtained a master or Ph.D. degree in the past 5 years in related fields. Priority will be given to candidates based on their motivation statement who show strong promise and interest becoming part of the heavy-ion research community and who can exploit and access Europe’s Heavy Ion Therapy Research Infrastructures.
Leading institutions, research centres, hadron therapy facilities, and small medium enterprises are collaborating together to deliver this course. Among these are CERN, GSI, INFN, CNAO, HIT, MIT, MedAustron, NCI, PSI, DKFZ, SEEIIST, TERA, University of Oxford, University of Malta, University of Groningen, University of Pisa, University of Manchester, Imperial College, Ludwig, Maximilian University of Munich, University of Melbourne and Technical University of Vienna as well as two SMEs: Avo-ADAM and EBAMed.
In order to enhance active interaction and participation between students and lecturers as well as networking amongst the students, the course is limited to a maximum of 50 students who will be selected by a committee of experts.
